Christmas in July Sale!!
July 26th through the 31st

It is once again time for the Christmas in July sale at Thimbles. Last year’s sale was such a great success that Thimbles is ready for this year’s sale with a much greater selection of holiday fabric. Plan to come to Thimbles during the week of July 25th and share some holiday joy with us! The new fabrics will inspire quilters and sewers to get those holiday projects underway. Christmas fabric will continue to be available for purchase after the sale at regular prices as long as the beautiful holiday fabric holds-out.!

“Create a Class”
 is Back!!!

Once again this summer the Thimbles teaching staff is offering “create a class.” During the months of July, and August, the teachers at Thimbles are offering classes by appointment. In addition to the scheduled classes, consider sewing with friends. You can select a project or topic and arrange for any number of classes depending on the project. The cost will be $10 per hour per person for 3 or more students. In addition, private sewing classes (one student) can be arranged at a rate of $30 per hour. Semi-private classes (2 students) can be arranged at $15.00 per student per hour. So call your friends, and then call Thimbles for more details and to set-up a class!

Convention Time
Brings New and Exciting Ideas to Thimbles!!

Summer time may be a time to rest for most, but not for the staff at Thimbles! There are always new ideas and new skills to learn. During the first week in August, Donna Oakley, owner, and 3 members from the Thimbles staff will be attending the annual Pfaff Sewing Machine Convention in   Minneapolis, MN. For one week they will learn about new trends in sewing, new product availability, as well as the latest in machine hardware and software! They will bring all that’s new back to Thimbles to share with students and customers. Stop by and ask about all that’s new! The Thimbles staff will be very excited to share their expanded knowledge and experience with you!

Machine Madness

If you are frustrated by puckered seams when sewing on sheer or knit fabrics, there is a way to avoid this. The answer is a walking foot for your machine. A walking foot is designed to guide the layers of fabric evenly under the needle without slipping. Several Pfaff and Baby Lock sewing machines have an even feed system built-in. On the Pfaff machines the system is called IDT (All Inclusive Dual Transport). On the Baby Lock machines the even feed system is called PDQ (Precision Dual Quilting). By using a walking foot or a built-in even feed system you will soon discover that your puckering days are over.

Any day sewing is a good day!!

Organic Knitting??

Organic products can be found in most stores these days, and now the “go-organic” lifestyle includes knitting.  At Thimbles you will find organic baby weight yarn in 2 colors, natural and light sage. This 100% cotton yarn is soft to the touch and is machine washable and dryable. It is available in skeins of 109 yards each. Great for baby gifts!!!

Deb’s Do’s and Don’ts

Even though the heat and humidity of summer keeps us thinking of cool lemonade and the chance of a refreshing breeze, do think ahead and don’t delay getting holiday projects started. Rather than get caught-up in the holiday rush later this year, get a few gifts made during the lazy days of summer. A perfect place to start would be at the Christmas in July sale. During June several holiday collections of beautiful fabric arrived at Thimbles. The gift and quilt possibilities are endless! Take advantage of the summer time and think holiday!

Jennifer’s Sew Sense

Getting garments to fit is often a concern for new sewers. Both ready to wear clothing and pattern makers use standard sizes that are most often not at all the same. It is important to take careful body measurements and compare them to the measurements listed on the pattern envelope. Don’t select the a pattern size based on the size of clothing you would select when shopping. Your pattern size will likely be larger than the size that you usually purchase in ready to wear clothing. The pattern size number doesn’t matter. What is most important is that the pattern body measurements match your measurements. By selecting your pattern based on actual body measurements, you can be sure that your investment of both time and money will reward you with a garment that fits and looks great!
